🔈CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - Music composition residency for film/TV

The Institut Français and ONY are launching a call for applications for a music composition residency for film, supported by Creation Africa as part of the Africa Creative Sounds program and in partnership with Cinémathèque Afrique.

From June 7 to June 17, 2026, residents will work at the heart of the ONY Studio in Antananarivo, equipped with a Dolby Atmos infrastructure, which will serve as both an educational tool and a real-world application setting.

The program alternates between training and creation based on a corpus of films from the Cinémathèque Afrique catalog.

Each participant, working in pairs, will produce between 4 and 6 minutes of original musical creation for film, from discovering the film supports to composition, to recording and the final public presentation.

🎶The educational program:

-Fundamentals of music for film: spotting, dramaturgical analysis, music/image relationship, identity of the African composer
-Practical composition workshops: work on concrete film supports, diversity of genres, integration of local and traditional sounds
-Production tools: mastery of studio work environments, computer-assisted music, organization of the creative workflow
-Professional challenges: copyrights, music publishing, director/composer relationship, career structuring
-Masterclasses and discussion sessions with African and international professionals

🎯 Profile sought

-Composer, beatmaker, or musician residing in Africa, from the Indian Ocean sub-region and French-speaking continental Africa
-Strong interest in music composition for film and visual storytelling
-Established musical practice, regardless of style or profile (instrumentalist, producer, electronic composer, etc.)
-Motivation to work collaboratively and engage in a structured professional approach

✈️Mobility is fully covered by the Institut français for selected participants.
