KALANORO - DEMO & TRAILER ARE LIVE! A game 100% made in Mada by Red Raketa Studio, writing the future of Malagasy gaming

They were part of the first class of ONY Booster, so we are very proud to share their story!

Red Raketa Studio is a Malagasy video game studio supported by ONY, a pioneer in the development of Malagasy cultural and creative industries, and by New Tales, an international video game publisher. The studio proudly announces the worldwide release of Kalanoro in summer 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The first Malagasy game to be globally published on PC and consoles, Kalanoro is the culmination of a journey that began in a garage in Antananarivo and illustrates the potential of Malagasy creative talent when properly supported.

Red Raketa Studio: a new wave of Malagasy talent for the world

In 2021, Dina, Steevie, and Karen founded Red Raketa Studio with a conviction: Malagasy folklore deserves its place in the global video game industry. Without funding or structure, they began developing Kalanoro in their spare time, between workdays. They are part of a new generation of Malagasy creatives who build for an international audience without abandoning their roots.

In 2023, the team joined the first class of Booster Ony, the incubation program dedicated to Malagasy creatives, notably supported by funding from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thanks to a €2,000 grant, equipment, quality mentorship, and access to international industry professionals, Red Raketa transformed a garage idea into a compelling prototype and learned to pitch their vision to experts.

A network that makes a difference

It was through the ONY network that Orelsan, co-founder of the association with Ahélya Randriambolaina, introduced Red Raketa to New Tales in 2024. The publisher, immediately convinced by the project's uniqueness and the team's ambition, decided to commit from the very first discussions. Their philosophy is clear: support without imposing, amplify without redefining. Red Raketa retains full creative freedom. New Tales brings its expertise in publishing, marketing, and international distribution to bring Kalanoro to players worldwide.

Kalanoro: when Malagasy folklore meets global video games

Kalanoro is a single-player action-adventure game where the player embodies Kalakely, a creature from Malagasy folklore, embarked on an improbable mission: to form the best music band on the island to overthrow the witch Raneny and liberate Lemuria. Blending platforming, dynamic combat, musical progression, and a bush taxi road trip, the game offers a colorful and feel-good experience, driven by a Malagasy-flavored soundtrack by internationally renowned artists: Denise, Jyeuhair, Marco Klarck.

Kalanoro doesn't just draw inspiration from Madagascar; it genuinely celebrates Malagasy folklore, heritage, and artistic energy for a global audience. A demo is already available on Steam.

ONY and Booster Ony: an ecosystem serving Malagasy creatives

Red Raketa Studio's journey illustrates what Booster Ony was designed to do: identify talent upstream, provide them with the resources and framework to go further, and connect them with the right players at the right time. ONY is a Malagasy association committed to supporting and developing cultural and creative industries in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean, co-founded by Ahélya Randriambolaina and Orelsan. ONY operates four academies dedicated to video games, 3D animation, music, and cinema, as well as Booster Ony, its incubator for entrepreneurial and creative projects. These structures aim to create a complete ecosystem where training, innovation, and entrepreneurship feed each other.

A strong signal for Malagasy creative industries

The global release of Kalanoro aligns with ONY's strategic vision: to make Malagasy creativity a lever for economic development and international influence. By investing in the talent, skills, and structures of emerging creative industries, ONY contributes to the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector, generating skilled jobs and promoting a strong Malagasy identity on the global stage.
